Guidelines for Characters

Registration
Players are allowed to enter the land of Reges without being a registered player, but to do, well, anything, registration is necessary. To become an official player on Reges, simply go to the registration building directly near the entrance of the region.

Name
"Reges" requires that each player have a fantasy-type name and a name which would not noticeably be related to a contemporary real-life character or person. Basically any name is okay, save for blatantly non-fantasy or non-"magical" names, such as Computer_Engineer, Bill_Clinton, or The_Dalai_Lama.

Title
Generally, players will set their titles (using +settitle title) with their element (Earth, Air, Fire, or Water). This is not required, although it does help with IC character development.

Species
Like names, "Reges" requires that each player have a species that is fantasy-related and humanoid--in other words, "Reges" is not a Furry genre. Examples of species which are unacceptable would be Jedi Knight, Mouse, or Fish Stick. If you are not sure whether or not your species is acceptable, this is a basic list of acceptable species which you can use as a "yardstick" of sorts:

Human
Elf
Half-Elf
Giant
Barbarian
Fairy
Reptilian
Gnome
Dwarf
Sprite
Sylphid
Centaur
Also, most species' names from fantasy books are accepted, such as Mystics or Adepts.

Zombies as Players
Great lengths were taken to accomodate the use of zombies as registered players on Reges. This lets Nameless MUCK players enjoy the "Reges" genre without having to play only Reges while on the MUCK.

Guidelines for Role-Playing

  • Players should change their status accordingly, viz. IC (In-Character) or OOC (Out-of-Character), by typing status #ic and status #ooc respectively. The IC status is used if players are currently role-playing, while the OOC status is used if players have decided not to role-play at that time.
  • Players must respect the role-playing and IC (In-Character) status of other players.
  • If an OOC player is in a room in which other players are Role-Playing (which is indicated by the IC status of those players), then that OOC player must not speak or act, so as to keep from interrupting the role-play that is taking place. The OOC player should only speak to other individual players using whisper or page.
  • Likewise, if a player is in IC status and is Role-Playing with other players, they should avoid speaking aloud to an OOC player.
  • Ultimately, the judgment of the players are trusted. There is no real codified system for being IC or Role-Playing, but just remember to keep an environment of common sense. For example, if another mage were to outcast your first-level spell with a third-level spell, do not claim something like, "I cast the spell with a special rock, so it really had a higher level than yours."
  • Though you should enjoy yourself when Role-Playing, never do so in a way that would prevent others from enjoying themselves as well.
